SMaRT Networking Cluster

The SMaRT (Semantic MultimediA Research and Technology) networking cluster will bring together the leading researchers from the fields of: Semantic Web, Multimedia and Signal Analysis. The goal of the cluster is to examine the results of current state of the art in researach and development and use this to identify and address emerging (strategic?) research challenges in Semantic Multimedia.

Global research on multimedia semantics is carried out to enable possibilities for human-computer interaction or computer-computer interaction, such as multimedia management, knowledge management or e-business. Semantic Multimedia will also spread up the development of new personalised services, e.g. iTV. The higher level semantic information could more easily be combined with user-profiles thus allowing more targeted infomration of the user or aggregation of information for a user.

The cluster is still in it's formative stages, the goals and objectives will be discussed and crystalised at the IST 2006 event ( http://europa.eu.int/information_society/istevent/2006/index_en.htm) where a Networking session dedicated to the cluster has been accepted.
